Ingredients
Scale
Meat and Vegetables
- 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
Seasonings & Sauces
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Soups & Dairy
- 1 can (10.5 ounces) condensed cheddar cheese soup
- 1 can (10.5 ounces) cream of mushroom soup
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
Main Layer
- 1 bag (20 ounces) frozen French fries
Garnish (Optional)
- Chopped green onions or pickles
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Dish: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to prevent sticking and allow even cooking.
- Cook Beef Mixture: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add ground beef, diced onion, and minced garlic. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the beef is browned and fully cooked through. Drain the excess grease to avoid a greasy casserole.
- Season and Combine: Season the cooked beef mixture with salt, black pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir well to blend the flavors. Then incorporate the condensed cheddar cheese soup, cream of mushroom soup, and milk, mixing until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
- Assemble Casserole: Spread the beef and soup mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle half of the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the beef layer. Next, arrange the frozen French fries in a single, even layer on top of the cheese.
- Bake Initially: Place the casserole uncovered in the preheated oven. Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until the French fries turn golden brown and crisp, and the casserole is bubbly around the edges.
- Add Final Cheese Layer: Remove the casserole from the oven. Sprinkle the remaining cheddar cheese evenly over the fries. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 5 minutes until the cheese melts and becomes slightly golden.
- Finish and Serve: Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly. Garnish with chopped green onions or pickles if desired. Serve hot, accompanied by your favorite condiments like ketchup, ranch, or burger sauce.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add crispy bacon bits to the beef mixture before assembling.
- Swap frozen French fries for tater tots for a fun variation.
- Serve the casserole with ketchup, ranch dressing, or burger sauce on the side for dipping.
- Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated thoroughly before serving.
