Ingredients
Scale
Fudge Base
- 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup white chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
- Pinch of salt
Topping
- 1/4 cup crushed peppermint candy canes
Instructions
- Prepare the pan: Line an 8×8-inch square baking dish with parchment paper or lightly grease it to ensure the fudge doesn’t stick after setting.
- Melt the chocolate: In a heatproof bowl, combine the semi-sweet chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk, and unsalted butter. Use a double boiler by placing the bowl over a pot of simmering water or microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring thoroughly after each, until the mixture is smooth and fully melted.
- Add the peppermint: Remove the melted chocolate mixture from heat. Stir in the peppermint extract and a pinch of salt, mixing well to evenly distribute the peppermint flavor throughout the fudge base.
- Transfer to the pan: Pour the melted fudge mixture into the prepared baking dish. Spread it into an even layer and gently tap the pan on the counter to release any trapped air bubbles.
- Top with crushed peppermint: Evenly sprinkle the crushed peppermint candy canes over the surface of the fudge, pressing down lightly so they stick well to the top.
- Chill and set: Refrigerate the fudge for at least 2 to 3 hours or until it is firm enough to cut cleanly.
- Serve: Once set, remove the fudge from the pan using the parchment paper, cut it into squares, and enjoy your minty, chocolaty treat.
Notes
- Use high-quality chocolate chips for the best flavor and texture.
- Adjust peppermint extract quantity to your preference for stronger or milder mint flavor.
- Store leftover fudge in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
- You can substitute crushed candy canes with crushed peppermint candies if preferred.
- Make sure the fudge is fully set before cutting to prevent melting or crumbling.
