Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
Wet Ingredients
- 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F/45°C)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing)
Instructions
- Activate Yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until the mixture becomes foamy, indicating the yeast is active.
- Mix Dough Ingredients: In a large bowl, mix 3 1/2 cups of flour, salt, the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg. Stir until a dough begins to form, adding more flour if necessary to achieve the right consistency.
- Knead Dough: Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook to knead the dough.
- First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
- Shape Rolls: Punch down the risen dough to release air, then divide it into 12-15 equal portions. Shape each portion into a ball and place them in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish or onto a baking sheet.
- Second Rise: Cover the shaped rolls and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes until puffed up.
- Preheat Oven & Bake: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the tops of the rolls with melted butter to encourage browning, then bake them for 15-18 minutes until golden brown.
- Final Touch and Serve: Brush the baked rolls with additional melted butter if desired for extra flavor and a soft crust. Serve warm for the best taste and texture.
Notes
- Make sure the milk is warm but not hot to avoid killing the yeast.
- Adjust flour quantity depending on dough consistency; the dough should be soft but not sticky.
- You can add spices such as cinnamon or nutmeg to complement the pumpkin flavor if desired.
- These rolls freeze well; store in an airtight container, and reheat before serving.
- Using melted butter to brush the tops adds flavor and a shiny crust.
