Description

This Low Carb Crustless Pizza Bowl offers all the delicious flavors of traditional pizza without the carbs from a crust. Featuring a savory mix of ground sausage, pepperoni, sautéed onions and mushrooms, all layered over a low-carb marinara sauce and topped with melted mozzarella cheese and Italian seasonings. Perfect for a quick, keto-friendly dinner that bakes in just 15 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale

Base and Sauce

  • Rao’s Marinara sauce (or any low-carb marinara sauce) – enough to cover the bottom of the pan

Meat

  • 1 pound ground sausage
  • 10-12 slices pepperoni

Vegetables

  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced

Cheese and Seasonings

  • 1 ½ cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 teaspoon Flavor Gods Pizza Seasoning (or your favorite pizza seasoning)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

Equipment

  • Disposable pie pan or a 9-inch baking dish

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a disposable pie pan or a 9-inch baking dish with cooking spray or oil to prevent sticking.
  2. Add Marinara Sauce: Pour the desired amount of Rao’s Marinara sauce into the pan, spreading it evenly to cover the bottom completely. This will serve as the pizza bowl’s base.
  3. Cook Sausage: Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the ground sausage, breaking it up as it cooks. Continue cooking until the sausage is fully browned and cooked through. Remove from heat and set aside.
  4. Sauté Vegetables: Using the same skillet, add the sliced onions and mushrooms. Sauté them over medium heat for about 5-7 minutes or until they become tender and slightly caramelized.
  5. Assemble Pizza Bowl: Add the cooked sausage, sautéed onions, and mushrooms evenly over the marinara sauce layer in the pan. Arrange the pepperoni slices on top of the meat and vegetables.
  6. Season and Add Cheese: Sprinkle the pizza seasoning, garlic powder, and crushed red pepper flakes (if using) evenly over the toppings. Generously sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over everything.
  7. Bake: Place the pizza bowl in the preheated oven and bake for 15 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Broil for Color: Switch your oven to broil and broil the pizza bowl for 1-2 minutes to brown and crisp the cheese on top. Watch closely to prevent burning.
  9. Cool and Serve: Remove the pizza bowl from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes to set. Serve warm and enjoy your low-carb, crustless pizza bowl!

Notes

  • This recipe is very flexible — feel free to use your preferred low-carb marinara sauce or substitute Italian sausage with turkey sausage for a leaner option.
  • Crushed red pepper flakes are optional, but they add a nice spicy kick if you like some heat.
  • If you want to prep ahead, you can cook the sausage and sauté the vegetables in advance to save time when assembling and baking.
  • Leftovers keep well in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat nicely in the oven or microwave.
  • For extra veggies, consider adding bell peppers or spinach to the sauté step.
