Description
A hearty and comforting one-pan meal featuring ground beef, tender potatoes, and a creamy cheesy sauce, cooked entirely in a skillet for an easy and satisfying dinner.
Ingredients
Scale
Meat and Veggies
- 1 lb ground beef
- 4 medium potatoes, diced (Yukon gold or russet)
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
Liquids and Seasonings
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Finishing Touches
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Heat Aromatics: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add diced onion and cook for 2–3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onion becomes soft and translucent.
- Brown the Beef: Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula as it cooks. Drain excess fat if necessary to avoid sogginess.
- Add Potatoes and Seasonings: Stir in the diced potatoes, minced garlic, smoked paprika, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper until everything is evenly combined.
- Simmer with Broth: Pour in the beef broth, bring the mixture to a simmer. Cover the skillet and cook for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork.
- Add Heavy Cream: Remove the lid and stir in the heavy cream. Continue to simmer uncovered for 3–5 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly.
- Melt the Cheese: Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top. Cover the skillet again and let it sit for 2 minutes or until the cheese is fully melted.
- Garnish and Serve: Garnish with fresh chopped parsley if desired and serve hot for a delicious, creamy, and satisfying meal.
Notes
- Use Yukon gold potatoes for a creamier texture or russet potatoes for a fluffier bite.
- Drain excess fat from the beef to prevent the dish from becoming greasy.
- Covering the skillet helps the potatoes cook evenly and the cheese melt properly.
- This recipe can be customized with other vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms.
